Presentation

From 5 to 28 March 2024, Sancho el Sabio Vital Fundazioa hosted the travelling exhibition ‘Basques in Australia’, a portrait of the emigration process that, throughout the 20th century, took many Basques to this island in Oceania, where they worked mainly in the fields. The exhibition is a journey through time, summarised in different subjects with graphic documents provided by the families of the protagonists and texts that place in context all the stages of emigration: from the journey, work and family to leisure time... In 2021 the exhibition ‘Basques in California’ was held in the same exhibition space of Sancho el Sabio Fundazioa and now, with ‘Basques in Australia’, a cycle of photographic exhibitions continues, accompanied by stories that bring us closer to the Basque diaspora.
