Information and Reference Service
The Sancho el Sabio Vital Fundazioa Information and Reference Service is made up of librarians and archivists specialising in Basque documentary heritage and deals with all enquiries made both in person and remotely. The technical specialists in information management:
- provide guidance on the resources available to the institution
- train in the use of the catalogues and heritage documentation
- provide guidance on the Basque subjects being researched (History, Ethnography, Genealogy, etab.)
- accompany the users in the space and in the building
- assist in the use of the consultation computers
- propose complementary external resources and services
Request information about a person or topic
You will need to identify yourself and register as a user of the documentation centre in order to use the service.
Reading room
Access to the documentary heritage will be by consultation in the Foundation's reading room. As the documents are kept in the repository, advance requests for materials must be made by email or by booking in the catalogue (at least one day before the visit).
For the provision of the original documentation, it will be necessary for the applicant to register as a user of the institution.
Some documents will not be available in physical format due to their preservation conditions or their location in external storage. In such cases, digitised access will be provided.
Rules of access and consultation in the room
By registering as a member, the user undertakes not to damage, in any way whatsoever, any of the documents or objects in the library and archive, to use the services correctly and to respect the current regulations of the Fundación Sancho el Sabio Vital Fundazioa:
- The Sancho el Sabio Vital Fundazioa Foundation does not have a lending service, so the collections must be consulted in the library.
- Access to the document must be through the library staff, for which the corresponding request form must be filled in.
- No more than three documents may be loaned at any one time.
- The document may be in different formats: original format of monographs, press, magazines, maps, posters and minor material.
- It will not be possible to consult in original format the collections that have already been digitised, except with the express consent of the person in charge of the service.
- Photographs may not be taken of the collections.
- Nor is it permitted to scan the collections using equipment provided by the researchers.
- Silence must be observed and proper behaviour must be maintained both with the staff and with other users.
- It is not permitted to eat, drink, smoke or use or have mobile phones on, except outside the building.
Digital support
The digitised collections can be viewed from the various consultation points. The Sancho el Sabio Vital Fundazioa Foundation has digitised a large part of its old collection of monographs, private archives, the press published in the Basque Country and Navarre (which can be viewed on the local network) and magazine articles.
Microfilm
A microfilm and microfiche reader-player is available for microfilm. Taking into account the special characteristics of some collections, such as graphic materials, photographs, leaflets, archives and microforms, it is necessary to make an appointment to consult them.
Laptops
In order to facilitate research, laptops may be brought in. The user is responsible for their use and supervision.
Public Internet access (wifi)
Free public access to the Internet is available to facilitate the user's access to databases, catalogues and other sources of information.
